Capturing an oral history of global investigative journalism
Aug 12, 2025
As authoritarian attacks on press freedom intensify worldwide, Incite Institute is proud to support a crucial new initiative documenting the untold history of how investigative journalism spread across the globe.
Led by investigative journalist Adiel Kaplan at Columbia Journalism School and housed at Incite Institute, the Global Investigative Journalism Oral History (GIJOH) project aims to record interviews with up to 300 journalists who shaped investigative reporting in their regions since the 1970s. From exposing corruption that toppled presidents to investigations that saved economies billions, these are the stories of how dedicated reporters created a global movement for transparency and accountability, often against tremendous odds.
With Incite's seed funding securing the first year of interviews, the project is now seeking additional support to expand this vital work of preserving these histories before they're lost forever.
