INCITE receives support from Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for Facing Whiteness

INCITE is excited to announce that we have received support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for our Facing Whiteness initiative. The Foundation supports institutions of higher education and and initiatives which are involved in groundbreaking work with the goal of creating a more diverse and democratic society.

Facing Whiteness investigates the way that white Americans understand their own racial identities. This project seeks to engage in an open discussion about whiteness in America, motivated by the idea that "not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced" (James Baldwin).
