About

The fourth phase of Carnegie Corporation of New York’s oral history project will build upon the deep and long relationship between Carnegie and the Columbia Center for Oral History Research. The extensive interviews from previous phases cover the growth of American philanthropy nationally and internationally, the consistency of Carnegie’s grant making in areas such as education, democracy, and international peace, as well as Carnegie’s long involvement in southern Africa. Since the conclusion of phase three in 2013, Carnegie has continued to build and expand its impact globally. Phase four will be an opportunity to capture those efforts, and to fully examine President Vartan Gregorian’s leadership and legacy, following his death in 2021.
